Our governor, Gavin Newsom, announced that based on the state’s progress in meeting specific metrics regarding COVID-19 testing and availability of personal protective equipment, California will move into Stage 2 of the stay-at-home order this Friday, May 8. This includes the reopening of some retail businesses such as clothing stores, bookstores, and sporting goods stores.
This announcement does not include schools. As Governor Newsom mentioned last week, the state is continuing to work with counties and school districts to determine how and when to safely reopen schools. This “Stage 2” announcement does not move up or alter our district’s timeline to reopen.
FUESD is continuing to work with the San Diego County Office of Education and the Department of Public Health to provide the highest level of distance learning and ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. We will continue to keep you informed with the most current information regarding school reopening as we receive it.
