At its October meeting, the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) Governing Board approved Resolution #07-25/26, officially declaring October 23–31, 2025, as Red Ribbon Week. This annual observance highlights the importance of living a drug-free life and fostering safe, supportive learning environments for all students.
The resolution reaffirms the district’s commitment to education that promotes health, safety, and prevention. FUESD recognizes that the best way to prevent substance use disorders is by empowering students early—through knowledge, positive choices, and community support.
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign, originating in 1988 to honor the memory of Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who lost his life in the line of duty. The red ribbon has since become a national symbol of the belief that one person can make a difference.
Throughout the week, FUESD schools will host a variety of themed activities, spirit days, and classroom lessons designed to inspire healthy decision-making and celebrate students’ commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
Superintendent Monika Hazel and the FUESD Board of Trustees encourage the entire community to join in supporting Red Ribbon Week and to continue promoting drug-free choices all year long.
