Emily Avila knew she wanted to be a teacher after her high school physiology teacher took his frustrated students to the athletic field, ran to the top of the stadium, and used a megaphone to direct them like a marching band to do cell division. The 21-year teaching veteran now empowers her students by giving them roles to develop skills like communication, collaboration, and problem solving.
