Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) Governing Board recently completed the unanimous passage of a resolution officially recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child. This significant resolution, passed during the governing board meeting held on April 18th, 2024, underscores the district’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by military families and its commitment to supporting their children.
Military families stationed in Fallbrook and the surrounding areas make invaluable contributions to our community, often facing unique challenges such as frequent relocations and the emotional strain of parental deployments. The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District Governing Board recognizes the resilience displayed by military children in overcoming these obstacles and aims to provide them with the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
The resolution highlights the significant roles played by Mary Fay Pendleton and San Onofre School, both K-8 base schools with enrollments almost entirely consisting of military children. These schools exemplify dedication to providing quality education and support services tailored to the needs of military-connected students. Additionally, the resolution acknowledges the participation of military-connected students in other schools within the district, emphasizing the district-wide impact of military families.
“As a district, we are honored to officially recognize April 2024 as the Month of the Military Child,” stated Seth Trench, Director of Communications for the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District Governing Board. “Military families are an integral part of our community, and it is essential to show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice. By acknowledging the unique challenges faced by military families and committing to targeted support programs, we aim to ensure that every military-connected student receives the assistance they need to thrive.”
In addition to recognizing the Month of the Military Child, FUESD recently received its designation as a California Purple Star School District. Every school within the district applied for and was awarded the prestigious Purple Star designation, positioning FUESD as one of the pioneering districts nationwide to achieve this remarkable feat. The Purple Star designation reaffirms FUESD’s unwavering commitment to serving military-connected students and their families.
FUESD’s comprehensive approach to meeting the needs of military-connected students extends beyond academic support to encompass social-emotional well-being, community integration, and family engagement. Through specialized programs, dedicated staff members, and collaborative partnerships with military installations and support organizations, FUESD ensures that military families feel welcomed, valued, and supported throughout their educational journey.
The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District encourages community members to join in recognizing and celebrating the Month of the Military Child throughout April. Together, let us honor the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of our military children and their families.
